May 2020

We decided to make an effort and organise a VE Day 75th anniversary Stay at Home Street Party for our road on May 8th. After all we still have a few residents who were at the original VE Day celebrations!

Very pleased to say that nearly everyone participated in one way or another and all seemed to really appreciate it.

What we have to put up with at the moment is nothing compared to what those who stayed at home had to cope with all those years ago.

Our little ones are at home - not evacuated to a stranger's house.

Our young men aren't going off to fight and maybe never return.

We don't have to queue for rationed food, or occupy ourselves by reading by candlelight.

We can communicate by phone, email, Facebook and video link, not by writing a letter that may never be answered.

We owe our freedom to so many people who gave their lives in the Second World War. This country would be a very different place if Hitler hadn't been defeated.

Last Sunday Steve Lee did this VE Day video presentation as part of our online church service. It's worth a watch.
